Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about birth photography, my process, and working together.
Birth photography is on-call work, which means I pause my own schedule to be fully available for your birth. I bring experience, training, and a deep understanding of the birth space. The investment covers not just the time I'm present at your birth, but also the on-call period, editing, backup equipment, professional insurance, and years of training. You're hiring someone who will be there for one of the most important moments of your life.
Of course they can! But do you want them focused on getting the perfect shot, or do you want them fully present with you? Birth photography allows your partner to be emotionally available and supportive while I handle capturing the moments. Plus, I bring professional equipment, backup cameras, experience working in low light conditions, and an understanding of birth that helps me anticipate and capture key moments. Your partner will likely want to be in some of these photos, too.
Being doula-trained means I have formal education in birth support and the physiological process of labor and birth. I understand birth positioning, what different stages of labor look like, and how to be a supportive, non-intrusive presence in the birth space. This training helps me anticipate moments, know when to be close and when to step back, and understand the sacred nature of this work. I'm not there to provide medical advice or doula services—I'm there to document—but my training deeply informs how I move through the birth space.
I recommend booking as early as possible, ideally in your second trimester. I only take a limited number of clients per month to ensure I'm truly available for your birth. Popular due date months (especially summer) tend to book up quickly. That said, if you're further along in your pregnancy and interested, reach out—I may still have availability.
Yes! I understand that birth photography is an investment, and I want to make it accessible. The standard payment schedule is a $400 deposit to hold your date, with the balance due at 36 weeks. However, I'm happy to work out a custom payment plan that fits your budget. Let's talk about what works for your family.
Absolutely. We'll discuss your preferences and comfort level before your birth. I can photograph in a way that's respectful of your boundaries—focusing on faces, hands, emotional moments, and the overall atmosphere. Many clients find that in the moment, they're less concerned about this than they thought they'd be, but I always respect your wishes. You can also choose which images you want to include in your final gallery. The goal is to capture your birth story in a way that feels right for you.
I'm on-call starting at 37 weeks and remain available through 42 weeks. Your due date is just an estimate—I'll be ready whenever your baby decides to arrive. If you go into labor before 37 weeks, I'll do everything I can to be there, though it's not guaranteed. This is one reason I recommend booking early, so we have time to build that connection.
I photograph births in all settings—home, hospital, or birth center. My goal is to document your story wherever you choose to birth. Each setting has its own beauty and challenges, and I'm experienced working in all of them.
Forever! Your photos are delivered via a private online gallery that you'll have permanent access to. You can download the high-resolution images and share the gallery link with family and friends. I also keep backups of your images for at least one year.
I serve Utah and Salt Lake County. If you're outside this area, reach out—I may be able to work something out, potentially with a travel fee. I want to make sure I can get to you in time when you go into labor.
Life happens, and I understand that plans can change. If you need to cancel, the deposit is non-refundable as it holds your spot and represents lost opportunity to book another client. However, if circumstances change (like a pregnancy loss), please reach out and we can discuss options. I want to be compassionate and flexible.
It will be me, Lizah. I don't work with a team of photographers. When you book with me, you're booking me specifically. In the extremely rare event of an emergency where I couldn't make it to your birth, I would do everything possible to find a trusted backup photographer, but this is highly unlikely.
